About Arts in Action

Arts in Action (AiA) is an outreach program of Divinity Lutheran Church in Parma Heights, Ohio.  The purpose of AiA is to infuse the local community, using the church as a venue, for community outreach in all forms of the fine and performing arts.  Our mission statement says it all: “Community Outreach through the Arts” (C.O.T.A.).

In 2006, the installation of our new 132 rank Rodgers/Ruffatti pipe organ was completed, and it was promised that the instrument would be the catalyst for a new community outreach program at Divinity Lutheran Church.  As a result, Arts in Action was formed later that year by three church members: Fredric Dray, Marlene Dray and Rick Haase.

Since then, many events have taken place with AiA, and we have seen over 4,000 people pass through our doors and into our sanctuary.  Notable artists such as Hector Olivera, Rodney Barbour, Tangled Blue, Scott Hanoian and the Parma Symphony Orchestra have performed in concert.  Local talent and visual artists have presented their work.  We have had handbell choirs, barber shop singers, and sponsored the 2009 “Year of the Organ” concert featuring the Divinity adult choir and our three organists.  In the past, Arts in Action has also teamed up with the area high schools to present concerts involving their music departments.  Some of these previous performances included the John Rutter Requiem and Mendelssohn's Elijah.
